The Fighter Movie Review

One would be right to think that there could be nothing new in The Fighter. True story biographical life, it comes to boxing and is about how an underdog rising to the occasion. Guilty on all counts but dismissing The Fighter as another boxing movie would be a big mistake. Of course it is predictable but like some good movies that it's not about what happened as much as it is how it happened.Micky Ward (Mark Wahlberg) is one of those fighters who are "Stepping Stone" for the others are on the way to challenge the champion of the day. Managed by his mother Alice (Melissa Leo), who has a soft spot for his older brother Dicky (Christian Bale), who also trains, Mickey used as a pawn by everyone around him.Always under the thumb of Dicky who once famously knocked out Sugar Ray Leonard, Mickey is put through hell by Dicky. Even Mickey agrees to fight with someone who is stronger than him in a match in which his original opponent leaves.Micky with the help of the new love of life, Charlene (Amy Adams) decides to go his own way. With his mother looking away Dicky deepens his cocaine addiction as an HBO documentary that Dicky is telling people about his supposed comeback, showing the world the truth about his addiction to crack, Mickey knows he has made the right decision.

With a new coach and a new director, along with his stepfather, Mickey gets hot enough for a title shot. No Mickey wins his team's last fight before the title shot with some tips Dicky. With one shot at glory, Mickey needs now the old instrument Dicky and Alice, along with the new team of Charlene and her coach to help you win the title, but the two do not see eye to eye.

David O Russell instills a sense of manic energy in The Fighter that no longer remains a mere boxing film. Rather, he makes The Fighter a story about the most problematic people following a battle much bigger than boxing.
Even with the predictable plot points Russell takes the script to some other level thanks to four great performances that serve as the foundation.
