Instrumental Music - What is It?

Instrumental Music? What are they? What are some good examples? This post is for those of you who are awakening to the vast world of instrumental. We will cover what they are and some of my personal views on why I think they are so popular.

Google defines instrumental music as music that is meant to be performed by a musical instrument or group of instruments. To find out what really is you must dig deeper than the pure meaning, because for me it's more than that. It is the backbone of all music because without it there would be more than fine words songs. It is the emotion, feeling and heart.

For those of you who are new to or instrumental songs are not completely convinced that this type of music that goes beyond simply playing instruments out notes, try to listen to Duke Ellington playing "Take the 'A' Train". He is one of many jazz composers of instrumental music that I really like. He had more soul in his fingertips and then most do throughout the entire body and his music exudes the same softness. Another must mention is Booker T & the MG play "Green Onions". This purely instrumental piece could make even bigger "stick in the mud" want to get up and dance. And this is just some of the best instrumentals of music out there.

On a more serious note, if soft instrumental music is more your thing, try listening to Kenny G, "Breathless". It is one of the best instrumental music solo artists playing the saxophone and he is sure to take your breath away.
